External, Internal and Construct Validity

چکیده
Introduction In research, validity refers to the degree to which findings are applicable in real-life situations. Essentially, if the findings are strongly valid, it implies that they have an excellent degree of applicability. In contrast, low validity implies that the survey is not applicable in real-life situations. The specific approach used during research has strong influence on validity. Weak research mechanisms have the capacity to undermine the validity of research.

Threats to Scientific Validity in Truck Driver Hours-of-service Studies
Commercial truck driver Hours-of-Service (HOS) rules are periodically revised to reduce driver fatigue and improve driver health in costefficient ways. HOS research must demonstrate causal relationships between HOS parameters and important safety outcomes. Thus, two scientific requirements are internal validity (demonstration of true cause-effect relationships) and external validity (generaliza...

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the psychometric properties of Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) in patients with acquired brain injury in Turkey. METHODS A total of 207 patients with acquired brain injury were assessed. Reliability was tested by internal consistency and the person separation index; internal construct validity by Rasch analysis; external construct validity by correlation with cognit...

متن کاملFunctions of Identity: Scale Construction and Validation
The purpose of this study was to construct a reliable indicator of the 5 functions of identity proposed by Adams and Marshall (1996). Following Loevinger’s (1957) method of test construction, 2 related studies were completed to test the substantive, structural, and external validity of the Functions of Identity Scale. Study 1 provides support for the substantive validity (factor structure, inte...
متن کاملGeneralized expectancies for internal versus external control of reinforcement.
The effects of reward or reinforcement on preceding behavior depend in part on whether the person perceives the reward as contingent on his own behavior or independent of it. Acquisition and performance differ in situations perceived as determined by skill versus chance. Persons may also differ in generalized expectancies for internal versus external control of reinforcement. This report summar...
